Who we are

Hint is a free AI gift finder for the web at hintgifts.app and for iPhone. The iPhone app is coming soon.

Hint is operated from Ontario, Canada. The product is focused on the United States.

What you give Hint

You can give Hint information to help generate gift suggestions. This may include:

• Text you type about the person you are shopping for
• The occasion
• A budget
• An optional recipient name
• An optional relationship, such as friend, parent, partner, or coworker
• Optional screenshots
• Optional links

Please do not submit sensitive information. Do not include passwords, financial details, ID numbers, private messages, health details, or other people’s personal details.

If you submit a link, Hint only fetches public pages on allowlisted sites, currently Goodreads, Letterboxd, and Pinterest. Hint does not fetch private or login-only pages.

How Hint uses it

Hint uses the information you submit to generate gift suggestions.

Your inputs are sent to Hint’s server and to Anthropic, an AI provider, to generate suggestions. Anthropic processes submitted inputs to generate those suggestions.

Hint uses the occasion, budget, text, optional recipient name and relationship, optional screenshots, and optional links to return gift ideas that are more relevant to the person and situation.

What Hint does not store

Hint does not store your inputs after the response is returned.

Hint does not log the text, screenshots, or links you submit.

Hint has no accounts and no sign-in. You do not create a profile to use Hint.

Logs and security

Cloudflare’s standard security and request logs may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse prevention.

To enforce daily usage limits, Hint keeps a short-lived counter keyed by an irreversible, salted hash of your IP address (for IPv6, of its network prefix). The salt changes every day, and the counter and salt are deleted automatically after 2 days. The hash cannot be turned back into your IP address, and it is not linked to anything you submit.

These logs help protect the service from abuse and keep Hint available. Hint itself does not log the text, screenshots, or links you submit.

Saved and shared lists

Saved lists live only in your browser on your device. Clearing browser or site data removes them.

Shared lists are encoded in the link itself. Anyone with the link can see the list. Hint does not store shared lists on its servers.

Because shared lists are contained in the link, be careful who you share the link with.

Hosting, security, and analytics

Cloudflare hosts the website.

Cloudflare also provides Turnstile bot protection, applies rate limiting for security, and provides cookieless aggregate Web Analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies.

Cloudflare processes IP addresses for security, including bot protection and rate limiting. Cloudflare also processes IP addresses for cookieless aggregate analytics.

Hint does not use IP addresses to determine your location or build profiles about you.

Where your information is processed

Service providers, including Cloudflare and Anthropic, process data in the United States.

Hint is operated from Ontario, Canada, and its product is focused on the United States.

Amazon links and the Associates disclosure

As an Amazon Associate, Hint earns from qualifying purchases.

Hint may earn a commission at no extra cost to you if you click an Amazon link and buy something.

Hint shows price bands, such as “$25 to $50”, not exact prices. Prices and availability are on Amazon.

Amazon’s own terms and privacy policy govern what happens after you click through to Amazon.

Children

Hint is for people 13 and older.

Hint is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

Screenshots and sensitive information

Screenshots can contain more information than you expect. Before submitting a screenshot, review it carefully.

Do not submit screenshots or text that include passwords, financial details, ID numbers, private messages, health details, or other people’s personal details.

Sale and sharing

Hint does NOT sell personal information.

Hint does NOT share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Because Hint does not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no opt-out of sale or sharing to process.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live in the United States, including California, you may have privacy rights such as the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, the right to request correction, the right to opt out of sale or sharing, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

Hint does not sell personal information. Hint does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because of that, there is no opt-out of sale or sharing to process.

You can make a privacy request by emailing privacy@hintgifts.app.

Because Hint has no accounts and does not store your inputs after the response is returned, Hint may not be able to match a request to stored data. If that is the case, Hint will tell you.

Your privacy rights in Canada

PIPEDA is Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law.

Hint collects and uses information for these purposes:

• To generate gift suggestions
• To keep the service secure
• To prevent abuse

By submitting inputs to Hint, you consent to their use for those purposes.

You can withdraw consent by not submitting further inputs. You can also contact privacy@hintgifts.app. Hint will explain any effect that withdrawal may have on the service.

You can request access to or correction of your personal information by emailing privacy@hintgifts.app.

If you believe Hint has not handled your information properly, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Data is processed in the United States by service providers, including Cloudflare and Anthropic.

Changes to this policy

Hint may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
