How to get better gift ideas

Hint works best when you give it a few specific clues about the person.

Helpful details include interests, hobbies, favorite books, favorite shows, music taste, style, things they already own, things they dislike, and how you know them. The occasion and budget also matter. A birthday gift, a thank-you gift, and a holiday gift can lead to different ideas.

You do not need to write a long biography. A few clear details are usually enough.

If a result feels off, try again with more specific hints. For example, instead of “likes cooking,” try “likes Korean food, cast iron pans, and practical kitchen tools.”

Screenshots and sensitive information

You can submit optional screenshots to help Hint understand a person’s interests. Before you upload anything, check the image carefully.

Do not include passwords, financial details, ID numbers, private messages, health details, or other people’s personal details.

Hint does not store your inputs after the response is returned. Hint does not log the text, screenshots, or links you submit.

You can submit optional links. Hint only fetches public pages on allowlisted sites, currently Goodreads, Letterboxd, Pinterest, and YouTube. It does not fetch private or login-only pages.

If a link does not work, check that the page is public and on one of those sites. You can also copy the most useful details into the text box instead.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. Hint has no accounts and no sign-in.

Are the picks guaranteed?

No. Hint suggests gift ideas, but it cannot guarantee that every idea will be right for every person. Use your own judgment before buying.

Where do prices and availability come from?

Hint shows price bands, such as “$25 to $50”, not exact prices. Prices and availability are on Amazon and may change.

Where are my saved lists?

Saved lists live only in your browser on your device. If you clear your browser or site data, your saved lists are removed.

How do shared lists work?

Shared lists are encoded in the link itself. Anyone with the link can see the list. Hint does not store shared lists on its servers.

Why am I seeing a message to come back later?

Hint uses rate limiting for security and abuse prevention. If you see a message to come back later, it means the service is limiting requests for a time.

As an Amazon Associate, Hint earns from qualifying purchases.

Hint may earn a commission at no extra cost to you if you click an Amazon link and buy something. Amazon’s own terms and privacy policy govern what happens after you click through.
